Hi guys, Old topic.. I was wondering if any of you can help me out as i'm about to build myself a casting rod to vertical jig for zander in big reservoirs (UK). Will need a tool that will work perfectly with 20g and 30g jigs (with 4 to 6 in shads) but will manage 15 and 40 too. Depths between 8 and 25mt. thanks in advance, Fabio

Hi Roger, Just a quick message to thank you for your advice. I ended up building on STC 5S70LF-G, Fuji KR Torzite, Matagi components (TVS reel seat, eva handles). will post a few photos when i get a chance! Thanks!

Thanks Jim. I've devoured all the articles on anglersresources and many of your forum posts in here. My first rod came out quite decently, can't complain at all as i was very pleased with the resultsI I wouldn't have been able to do anything without anglersresource. I want to step up my game every time, though, especially because I don't want to mess up the Sc V blank that's going next on

In this case I took into account 15/20lb braid. I take that the softness will also affect the final position of my reduction train, but that will be later on..

I'm still failing a bit to get confident as i'm finding so many different layouts regarding KR concept. And in this continuous evolution i've lost track of what's the newest and most accepted one. I appreciate you have probably discussed these same topics until sickness and beyond. Some examples of my confusion to follow, the first being the one i've adopted to my previous and only rod i've

Thanks for the feedback Roger. Good to hear that I'm pointing in the right direction. I have a few st croix rods already. I have a LTWS66MLF ( Legend Tournament Walleye 3/8oz) and i'm looking to get something similari but lighter. I have other rods on the 5/16 range which is exactly what I need but not quite as suitable for light jigging. I really need the action to be perfect for it.

Hi, St Croix 5S70LF-G Any experience with this blank? The application would be jigging for perch in canals and small rivers in the UK. Normally using 1" to 3" shads on 1gr to 5gr jigheads (sort of 1/32 to 3/16oz). I'm not going to use anything else than soft plastics on this rod. This project has a decent budget (fuji k trotzite and matagi components) so i don't really want to g

Cheers for the replies so far. This is the first and only rod I've built so far: I had 2 guides on the lower section on this one. Just got suspicious after seeing St Croix doing two different guide spacings for single and 2pcs version of the same model..

Hi everybody, Firstly, I apologize for a seriously dull question that comes from a rod building newbie like me. I've tried looking in the old discussions with no luck. i'm re-wrapping a 2pc's 6'6" spinning rod. Getting rid of the old guides in favour of 9 guides KR. I'm not going to change handle and reel seat. When deciding where to wrap the guides, both with GPS and table edge m

Hi everybody, Thanks for the precious bits of advice. I've used the lightest guides I could for the budget, Fuji alconite (KR concept). I've customized the rod on the reel my friend has bought for this combo. I've moved the reel seat up to the maximum height I could, per my friend's personal taste, which is quite high up, 30cm on a 7" (up to 10gr) spinning rod. The weight is circa 1 in

Thanks Tom. Yes, I'm still not sure about the subject to be honest. The friend for which i'm building this rod wants it like this. For me balancing became an issue only on my ML st croix walleye rod, which is very tip heavy, and i use it to jig for zander with my rod at 10 o'clock position.

by the way, i still haven't glued the rod, i want to move a couple of things around to remove at least half of theat weight, as 20g is really too much

well it obv depends on the type of blank, the power, the number and type of guides, size of reel etc. But more importantly where you've allocated your reel seat and how close to the bottom end of the rod you could concentrate the weight to obtain a good counter balancing on the leverage. This one is a MHX S842-2, 9 k-guides, split grip, size 1000 reel allocated quite low on the blank, i reckon

Hi everyone, This is my first topic and the one i'm building is my first rod. I hope you guys are doing good! I will probably open a can of worm with this subject, but here's how i balanced this rod i'm building: Basically i cut a piece of a scrap rod blank and used it as a mould for lead. what do you think?
