Hi,

St Croix 5S70LF-G

Any experience with this blank? The application would be jigging for perch in canals and small rivers in the UK. Normally using 1" to 3" shads on 1gr to 5gr jigheads (sort of 1/32 to 3/16oz). I'm not going to use anything else than soft plastics on this rod.
This project has a decent budget (fuji k trotzite and matagi components) so i don't really want to get it wrong!

Although I have not built on the 2016 blank, I have built quite a few rods on this same blank from previous years.

For perch, I can't think of a better blank. I have caught many many perch on the same rod from previous years.

St. Croix makes wonderful blanks that should work very very well for you.

I have a few st croix rods already. I have a LTWS66MLF ( Legend Tournament Walleye 3/8oz) and i'm looking to get something similari but lighter.
I have other rods on the 5/16 range which is exactly what I need but not quite as suitable for light jigging. I really need the action to be perfect for it.

Depending on whether you are doing long casting or working out of a big boat, you may be happier with the rod, if you cut the butt of the rod to shorten the rod. Don't touch the tip of the blank at all.

I find that when perch fishing, I prefer a shorter rod - somewhere between 6 foot and 6 foot 10 inches.

But, the rod works very well at the 7 foot length.

Just a quick message to thank you for your advice. I ended up building on STC 5S70LF-G, Fuji KR Torzite, Matagi components (TVS reel seat, eva handles).
