It's not required to used winding checks on a split grip. A simple JTOB or a single trim band and an epoxy ramp makes a fine transition from blank to grip and if done properly, can provide a bit of protection for the grip in the rodholder.
I use the space between the grips for more dec wraps or rod info or the owners name.

I do a fair amount of grouper fishing off North Carolina.
My rods are rainshadow swb80ml and swb80xh. I build them full length, Aluminum gimble, 14" foam butt, 14" foam fwd grip, full #22 or 24 aluminum reel seat, and regular boat guides or turbo guides. No rollers.
I like the longer rods because I can snatch the fish off the bottom 8-10' feet on the hook set.

Also, before you go cutting anything, be sure it is installed backwards. A few years back, someone started this thing where they were putting the stripper on backwards. I've seen it with rollers, turbos, triple foots, ect.
It looks retarded and serves no function other than to make the owner look like a fool.
Just make sure it is backwards before you go cutting.

I use a lint roller. It's basically 6" wide masking tape. A couple quick passes down the blank and your ready to go in about a minute.

Someone of face book mentioned that it was possible to buy boxes of broken rods from the factory, specifically st croix. I'm guessing these would be one sent back in for warranty claims. Any way, does anyone here know how to go about doing this?
Thanks in advance.
Danny.

When I have this problem, and I don't want to cut it off (again), I use a coat of cp, then repack about a hour later. The cp will be a little tacky still and hold everything in place.

Make sure the room and resin are up to temp, 70-75* at least (usually not a problem).
And I check on the curing process every 40mins to a hour, testing tackiness with the left over resin in the cup.
If I do get a sag or drip, a quick shot of heat thins it and allows it to be "rotated" back into the other finish. Just be very careful with the heat.

Hello everyone.
I'm looking for the path of least resistance here. I've got 4 old customs that desperately need guides and some over all tlc. Normally, I'd jump right in and strip them, but these are old ugly stick style blacks. No finish on the black from the factory, and the blanks were fully coated from the late Jesse Buky.
I want to reuse the blanks, but if it would be less of a pa
