Buying broken/ damaged rods by the box?

Someone of face book mentioned that it was possible to buy boxes of broken rods from the factory, specifically st croix. I'm guessing these would be one sent back in for warranty claims. Any way, does anyone here know how to go about doing this?

Thanks in advance.

Danny.

I've seen a few people repairing them and selling then for a good discount off list price on craigslist. I've purchased a few tip sections to make light kids rods with. He told me he got boxes direct from St. Croix. Ones that were sent in for warranty, a few he showed me only needed a guide or two re wrapped I would imagine a email to them would get u what u want to know.

Danny,
I have run across these boxes of broken rods from time to time. After checking a few of them, I have stopped looking at them.

The problem that I found was that it seemed that the vast majority of the rods that were broken in these boxes - had various lengths of rod blank broken off the tip of the rod.

There are a very few exceptions, but for much of the fresh water fishing rods, the tip and the last 3-6 inches of the rod, is the part of the blank that really gives the rod its character and its fish catching ability.

There are so many blanks, that if 2-5 inches is broken from the rod tip, one may as well be fishing with a pool cue.

However, you may run across boxes of rods that only have missing guides etc. In that case, the rods would certainly be worth salvaging.

For the same reason, I have run across "repaired" rods for sale that have a portion of the tip missing. i.e. part of the rod is broken from the tip, and the tip is cut cleanly and a new tip top is attached to the much larger end of the blank.

Again, unless there is a very good reason to fish with a pool cue, not generally such a great rod.

Good luck

At the Lamiglas plant they have let me look thru the box of failed blanks, no rods. The glass blanks are the only ones I selected as the material is much better for general rod repair.

Danny, you might try Utmost Enterprises, I know they have bins full of broken rods, tip sections and butt secctions. I'I've used some of the grip sections cut off at the winding check to build another rod. Some of their pieces are top line manufacturers and have some pretty nice components on them.
