1. Epoxy
When you want to put a thin first coat on your threads do you thin the high build epoxy or use the lite build product. If you thin, what do you usually use?

If looking for some special purpose or exotic wood, do a search for saw mills or hardwood wholesale suppliers in your area. They usually have "cut offs" lying around that you can buy pretty cheap. It is amazing what you can find. I have one place that I stop by when I am in the area just to "window shop" sometimes you get a spectacular catch sometimes nothing interesting.

I have always used relatively shot rods with rollers and wire line to troll for stripe bass in salt water. Some of the comments on set-ups for troling for salmon in the Great Lakes now has me thinking about building a couple of rods along the lines of these rods which seem to run in the eight foot plus range. The stripers usually run in the 30# and up range and 40# are not unusual. Does anyone ha

Does anyone know the hights of the new Fuji RV 25, 20 and 16 guides. I do think they come in a "h" style which I am interested in.
Thanks

I hadn't given this much thought but; if after grinding or filing the guide feet, what about polishing them on a buffing wheel with SS polishing compound? I polish the cutting edges on all of my knives and other cutting tools and they come out with a extra smooth mirror finish.

This may sound like a foolish question but here goes anyway. Three specs are usually given with reel seats, inside diameter, outsiide diameter and length. When building a rod to be used with a spicific reel I assume that you select the reel seat who's length most closly matches the length of the foot of you reel and who's interior diameter come close to the diameter of the rod. In other words it

After you shape the cork handle you might try to use a fine tip perminant Sharpie. in whatever colur you want and spin the handle on your lathe and using a rest. Just touch the seam with the tip of the Sharpi and you will get a streight line. I have not used this technique on cork but have used it on wood and it works on that medium.

Not to hijack, but along the same line---if you have Miceosoft Word for Apple, will the program run?

Has anyone built a surf rod to throw plugs (2 1/2 to 3 oz) on one of thesr high end rod blanks used for carp fishing in Europe? I know they are rated differently, based upon the weight it takes to bend the rod to 90 degrees I believe. From what I have been able to research to throw plugs in that range you would likely be using a blank rated around 3.5 - 4. Do any of the sponsors handle these blan

OK, thanks.
It's a bit confusing as many of the online vendors still list them as "J" when you click to order.

17. Fuji KW Guides
Looking at the Fuji "Rod Guides Hight Chart" I think that the KW guides in sizes 10 thru 25 are listed high guides (eg 25H). I have looked as several of on line sources for these guides and the KW guides are all listed as "J" not "H" guides.
My question is; are the hights listed on the Hight Chart for "J" guides or are the hights listed on the chart for

Two questions:
How tall is the stripper and can the stripper be purchased alone or will we have to purchase the entire package of guides?
Thanks,

19. Olive Branch
I am new to rod building and right now have a very limited supply of thread to play with. When doing an Olive Branch do you use the same size and type of thread for the base thread and for the leaf or do you use a softer (say silk) thread for the leaf. I was thinking that the silk would spread out a little and make a more realistic leaf.

I have an older Lamiglass Arra 1321 that I am planning to rebuild using the NGC. Not having done this before I am assuming that I will have to heat each of the guide wrappings to soften the epoxy, then peal it off and carefully cut the wrapping threads with a razor to remove the guides.I am assuming that there will be some epoxy residue left on the blank. What should I use to clean of this remain

You might want to look at the Century Sling Shot 1025.
It is an 8.5 foot blank, rated 1/2 - 2 1/2 oz.
It was developed for school striper fishing but is still a rod with pretty good backbone. I'm not sure about the blank weight but the Century rods are usually pretty light. I'm thinking of building on this blank for fishing some of the small rivers that feed in to Buzzards Bay .

You might want to look at the Century Sling Shot 1449. It is a 2 piece, 12 foot rod rater 4 - 8 oz with a moderate fast action.

26. NGC Surf build
I am getting the components together for my first build. It is a Century NorEaster 1327, will be paired with a Sustain 6000, using 30# Power Pro braid and used for plugging. Most of the plugs I use are pencils and poppers in the 2 ½ to 3 ounce range and I fish the Cape Cod Canal which equals fast moving currents.
Distance from the butt to the reel will be 28 inches. The Sustain spool has a dia
