Sir, He is looking more moderate to low high end. I wouldn't feel right nor would I set him up with a low end blank. He knows that and is still wanting a rod. Regards, Cory

Hi, I like the look of reel seats with the wood insert. I want to put a few saltwater fly rods together with them. Even with an aluminum reel seat I flush, clean and dry the rod before stowing it. Are there any other care tips that would make the wood better withstand the harsh saltwater conditions it is exposed to or is it just waste? Regards, Cory

Gentleman, I am making the rod for a friend. When I spoke to him originally the general location that he planned on fishing was new england, novia soctia, greenland and iceland. He is a bit of a globe trotter and would like the rod to be versitle across a broad range of waters and speices of fish. After seeing what recommendations you have and getting some clarification from my friend maybe a

I am a bit confused. I understand that action refers to where the rod flexes when casting. i.e. fast action rods flex the first 1/3 or less of the rod. I also understand that power has to do with what the rod will physically handle. What I am having difficulty understanding rod sensitivity. Is a fast action rod more sensitive than a medium action because it flexes more readily at the tip? When di

I am building a 6'6" rod and I am using micro guides. I have spaced the guides as recommended by the manufacture. It is a casting rod and when I do a static load test the line touches the blank. I re-spaced them and even added a guide and the line still touches the blank. Will this be an issue while fishing. The person I am building it for uses mono. if he decides to go to braid will it dama

My friend asked me to build him a couple of rods. He is fishing for specs and reds. His favorite rod is a castaway wading special light 6'6". He wants the rod to be the same length he typically throw 1/4oz lurers plus or minus going down to a 1/16 oz with soft plastic occasionally. I was thinking I would go with HM-SJ783-MHX it is 6'6" and is rated for 3/16-5/8 oz. and is a fast action.

Hey guys, I posted a few days ago about a rod blank selection I was trying to make. Oddly the post is gone. I have an email because I was following the post but it no longer shows up in the message board and when I use the link attached it says the message cannot be found. Did I accidently delete it myself? Did I cross some line or break a rule? I am sorry if I did. Just curious what happened. Y

Mr. Roger, Thank you. I plan on putting a coat of wax on because I plan on giving them out to friends and selling a few to recoupe the cost. I am using this as a way of honing skills with thread art and turning cork and general rod building. Cory

Gentleman, Can anyone explain the differances between carbon fiber, graphite and fiberglass (E glass?) blanks? What are there applications in the rod building world? How do I know I am getting what I paid for and the quality that the vendor claims is there? Thanks for the help. Regards, Cory

Hi, I am wrapping guides for the first time on a fly rod. I am having difficulty with getting the thread to wrap. The blank I have has a gloss finish on it from the manufacture and the thread slips. I have loosen the tension on the thread I have increased the tension slowly to the opposite extreme. I have considered lightly scoring the gloss finish just like when I installed the grip and seat. S

Hi, I have noticed on most currently available fly rods that the guide and hook keeper wraps are simple. Would a decrotive wrap create a large flat spot where the rod wouldn't flex as well. How would decrotive wrap like the ones seen on a spin or casting rod affect the casting on a fly rod. Does a decrotive wrap acutually take away from a rods; fly, spin, or cast ability to cast effectively or t
