Hi,
I have noticed on most currently available fly rods that the guide and hook keeper wraps are simple. Would a decrotive wrap create a large flat spot where the rod wouldn't flex as well. How would decrotive wrap like the ones seen on a spin or casting rod affect the casting on a fly rod. Does a decrotive wrap acutually take away from a rods; fly, spin, or cast ability to cast effectively or to its utmost potential. Thanks, Cory Re: Decrotive thread wraps

No, it wouldn't really bother anything, except the more traditional non-decorative style of fly rod which most consumers have become accustomed to and seem to prefer. But if you're building this for yourself, so what? Go ahead and do it. Yes it will add a little weight, which technically robs you of some performance. But this tiny bit of additional weight that low on the rod (towards the butt) isn't of any real practical concern.
