How time flys.
Almost three years since I posted this, couldn't believe it when I saw the posting date.
In the last two weeks I've purchased a Sully rod wrapper and also a Sully single rod dryer.
Plan to start by repairing a couple rods I trampled all over the rod guides with big winter boots late season musky fishing.
From there building my own fishing rods.
The comments about the Sul

Thanks for the Batson tables of blanks Ron.
The 10 footer may work.
The outside rod would be running a bait higher(shallower), these baits have two pull eyes, deep and shallow, on the shallow pull eye the bait puts less load on the rod, still pulls hard but less rod loading.
I think I'd like to go fiberglass but a composite is also a possibility based on cold ambient fishing conditions.

Hey Steve,
word I used was 'spread' not 'speed'.
Extra rod length helps keep separation from another rod on same side of boat, cover a little more water and with tangles during turns.

I have a couple Loomis MUR946C Muskie trolling rods that I really like for trolling bigger deep diving crankbaits that really pull hard, baits are typically 14".
The specs on the MUR946C are:
Length = 7'10" Ex-Heavy
Fast Action
30 to 60lb
1 to 6oz
Would like to get some extra spread between baits so was thinking of building a 9' rod.
Any thoughts on a blank with similar spec's

guide mystery solved, called shimano/loomis tech support.
Guides are Fuji.
From rod tip to reel, left to right;
BSUZT8-6.5, BNLG8, BNLG8, BNLG8, BNLG10, BNLG10, BNLG12, BNLG16, BNLG20.
At least have something to start with.
Use braid, no grooves or wear on originals so will replace damaged one in kind.

Thanks for the suggestions/ideas folks.
Some very nice handmade units for sure.
At this point I'm leaning toward a commericial unit mostly from a time standpoint, would be difficult for me to make something with only a hotel room as my work area and on weekends when I am home the honey-do list is pretty long, espeially with the weather breaking and just the normal household chores eating up m

Kinda struggled with the title but here is my situation.
I fly week to week around the US from my home in Niagara Falls, NY.
Plan to spend most weeks in the FT Lauderdale area until around October.
I'm just getting into rod fixing but hope to expand to building a few rods for my own use.
I have tons of time after work in the hotel to learn rod building, are there portable/transportable

Thanks for the tip Spencer.
I just may do that, I received an email from mudhole tech support today saying to contact loomis with the rod model number and they could supply rod guide vendor/make/style info.
I was also thinking of removing a guide and checking the dimensions with a micrometer and then picking from a fuji catalog for example.

Thanks for the reply Jim.
I've checked out a bunch of youtube videos on replacing rod guides just to get the flavor of what needs to be done.
Looking forward to getting these rods ready for fall trolling so I have time right now.
Also bought a few of the Dale Clemens Rodbuilding books, a bit dated timewise but very enjoyable to read and packed full of information.

Just a newbie on rodbuilding, rod repair, etc, although not a newbie on life experiences (64 yrs old) lol!
I have two G.Loomis Muskie Trolling Rods, model mur946C, 7'10", 30-60lb, 1 -6oz, fast-action.
I use them to troll for muskies in the late fall here in the niagara falls, ny area, weather can be fridgid in mid-december so I usually wear pac-boots to keep the feet warm.
