Hello Chaps
Please could you give advice on how to do transparent rod wraps that will show the guide foot underneath.
I think it is all to do with the type of thread used and the varnish and thinners but the benefit of your experience would be much appreciated.
Please could you bare in mind I am in the UK so may not have easy access to the materials you do in the USA although that said the w

For Michal
"Last option - spliced tip in solid glass - talk to rod builders about that. It is a matter of finding the right carbon blank, that has enough room in the tip, so that when it gets trimmed, a solid glass (or carbon) tip can be glued there. "
Great minds think alike - I'm making an extreme ultralight at the moment with a glass butt, IM8 carbon middle and very fine solid

Hi Chaps
Thank you for all the input .
Another question please - I spoke to a guy at Mudhole and hs recommended the Seeker SP glass series which certainly SEEMS on paper to tick some boxes :
Question does anybody know anything about these blanks ? I have a seeker rod which chef jim built for me but Seeker are not well known in the UK at all.
In addition to this quite by chance I was advi

Hi Chaps
Been a long while and a lot of fishing since my last post. I've posted this on a few of our UK boards but no takers as yet so I thought I'd give you chaps a go at it as you will understand the 'why' of it better than most UK anglers.
Now I need your help with a 'project' for a new rod I want to create. I am wanting to build a glass/carbon hybrid not composite 7 foot ish light lure

Hi Chaps
I know this isn't a 'reel' board but I've just checked out the John Baker reels as being a tackle deprived limey I'd never heard of them - man they are pretty and a very good price.
My only reservation is that from my admitably inexperienced point of view they seem a little light on line capacity ? One 200 yard plus run and the spool diameter is getting very low and the drag very hi

Hi there Chaps
Been a while since my last post but I need your help again.
I'm thinking of wrapping or grtting wrapped a short XH stand-up tuna stick with a length of around 50" to 60" - yes that short really.
I'm hoping you will able to provide with some food for thought on blanks, guides etc....
At present I'm leaning towards a Calstar Grafighter 755xh (and a hacksaw) for the b

Hi Chaps
Greetings from across the pond - it's been a while.
I am interesting in building an interline rod and would like your help re. guide choice. That is to say are any special characteristics needed for the blank apart from it being hollow?
As a travelling angler some of the larger guide sizes used (30/40 mm) are a pain in the butt in rodtubes. Also if damaged $50 plus for a replaceme

Thanks Guys for the suggestions could I just ask a few more questions.
I like the sound of the Lamiglass and Shikari blanks - I checked them out and their websites description seems to be what I want.
If possible is there anybody out there who has first hand experience of them and could give me a heads up on which one has the 'faster/tippier' action. Are they fairly 'robust' blanks?

Hi Chaps
Been a while since I last posted so bare with me.
I'm looking for a true ultralight blank that I can use with a pistol grip/casting reel setup - for info the reel is a Shimano Scorpion 1000 direct from Japan.
I thought I'd found the perfect rod in Shimanos 5.5 foot u/l mini telespin which after getting a pistol grip and some Amtak holos did the job perfectly for a while.
The only pro

Biil and Matt
Thanks for the replies.
I did a little searching on various blankmakers websites and longer is definately the trend at the moment.
I like the sound of the 'Rainshadow' blank at x-heavy and 6'3" but can anybody tell me a little more about the firm?
One question is do there blanks have a reputation for 'toughness' under fire as this is a major requirement in this form of fi

12. Musky blank
Hello Chaps
I wonder if I could enlist your help on finding the following blank.
I'm looking for a 6 foot, 1piece composite blank casting upto around 4/5 oz.
If possible I'd prefer a stiffish 'throughish' rather than a 'fast' action and with shedloads of power in the butt. Rod needs to be stiff so I can get that 'walk-the-dog' action on my 'stickbaits'.
Apart from the odd pike jerkbaiting/hea

Hello again chaps
Can any body direct me to a website, pictures or offer advice on the best way to ergonimically customise/make the rear part of a short 'pisto'l grip style handle?
For example is the 'classic' pistol shape better than a 'hump/bulge' shape if you know what I mean?
Is it just trial and error or are there any guidlines around? Would making a plasticene/modelling clay template be

Thanks Ted
A question - being in the UK I may (OK will) have difficulty getting this stuff can.
What type of adhesive is this - eg rubbery, silicon based or is it a 'thixotropic' glue like Evostik?
Is there another source of this apart from Flexcote.
Again thanks
regards
Jeremy
