Hey y'all,
I have a guy asking me to fix a snapped rod. Story is his buddy stepped on it and broke it between the first and 2nd guide. Seems like the thing to do is put a ferrule on it and make it a two piece. But I've never attached any ferrules or anything to a rod, so I'm not sure what the best way to attach one is. What do y'all use and what orientation would be best to put it on?

Hey y'all, finally getting back to this after a fw year hiatus for university, working on an aquaculture degree.
Have a couple of Seeker GTS70L's around from like '14 and want to chop em down to about 6'. What sort of advice do you have for cutting the blanks? I was gonna use either a dremel or a chop saw, but dont have any idea what sorta wheel or blade to use.
Also, should I be taking

I like the comb idea. I may glue one to my peg board. And I'm wrapping off spools.

So I'm doing my first buttwrap with a lot of metallic threads and once I have more than 3 going onto the rod at once they start to get tangled up in each other because, well they like to hold their shape. Any tips on keeping them all in line aside from going one thread at a time? Thanks - Tyler Bulin

Hello Everyone!
I had a blast at ICRBE yesterday, and it was a shame i was only there for one day of the event. While there i raided Mudhole's $1.49/ft rod display and grabbed some neat stuff. Among them was the pair of solid fiberglass blanks that kept getting attention and a surf blank of the most curious action. Its 10' long, 2 pieces and a medium fast action that flexes well all the wa

11. Lamiglas Label
I dont know if I'm allowed to post this here, but does anybody in the central jersey area, (Ocean, Monmuth, Middlesex) area have any lamiglas labels to put on a rod? The one I got with the blank got epoxied to my table... Yeah, I did that. Thanks

Hello all,
First off, merry holidays and happy new year etc. etc. etc. I recently took some time off of building to deal with some silly stuff like SATs and college applications, but today, on a whim, decided its the prefect time to start again! I somehow came into possession of a 8ft 5wt fly blank, and decided to make it a rod for crappies and sunfish. It is a Cabela's Tradition II blank,

Tom, They are Fuji Alconite guides. I am not too sure about using the heat gun because mine is quite clumsy and does not direct the heat as well as it should. and since thyey are double foot guides most of it is stuck in the wedge on the 2 armed foot.

17. Stupid question.
I know this is a stupid question that has probably already been answered, but what is the system for rod classes? Im talking about how some parts, like guides, are rated for #80 class rods. Can someone please explain this to me. Thanks.

20. Shrink Wrap
Hello Everyone. I am still waiting for a reel seat to get here, so I figured id ask this now while i have some free time. And believe me, I am sorry for the amount of questions. The surf pole im doing is with shrink wrap and its my first time using it, so I'm kinda flying blind. How do I put the shrink wrap on the blank to get a good looking seam with the but cap and grips with the epoxy the

So I am working on a surf pole for a family member, and decided to go with a purple and pink combination. I got the purple and pink from Madeira and know that it needs CP but was going to use gudebrod metallic threads to accent it. Will the CP affect the gudebrod? And if so how many coats should I put on? - Thanks - Tyler

I use an old Yankee candle box for their small candles. Its not as well divided as say a plank box, but it holds just as many spools if not more.

23. Thread colors.
Hey RodBoard I have a question for all of you. I am looking to build a personal light saltwater rod with a St. Croix SCIV Graphite Inshore Saltwater blank in the metallic Belize Blue finish but don't have the blank stocked with me. I was wondering if anyone has done rods with these blanks, because I can't quite tell what colors go with it from catalogs and online. What colors would you suggest. I

Ok, so i have noticed a big difference in my finish vurses everyne elses on this board and the NERB's page and stripers online and a host of other places. I cant seem to get the lines at the ends perfectly straight or the rise to be gradual. Is there like some trade secret to doing that or am i really that bad with a brush? I use Flex oat original high build, could a new finish make a differen

25. St. Croix Repair
Now bear with me her i know its a lot of information.
I know this isn't exactly a building question but i feel that the members of this board would be able to assist me the most. During Sandy a friend of mine had some rods that sustained damage. One of these is a (really) old St. Croix. It has the number 9920 on it by the company label, and a detachable wooden grip. th reel seat and butt g

Maryann and Michael thanks for the help. Barry that blank is just a little out of price range but seems superb, I have heard many good things about the rainshadows and hopefully will be able to start working with them once I need a new rod. And Billy I really was looking for inputs on weight and length because my (store bought) rods are not very specific on how much and what to be throwing with

27. Surf Blanks
Hello everyone, with striper season soon upon us in the great garden state, I have some friends looking for a custom surf pole. While I can provide that i have no experience building them (but am willing to give it a shot) or selecting a blank or guides and whatnot. For this reason I decided to look at the surf rod kits on mudhole for a better idea. My problem though is what style (weight and

28. Panfish Rod
Hey Rodboard I was just at the Bass Pro in Myrtle Beach and came across a panfish rod that looked cool. It was 12 foot and the action was like ultra-ultra-ultra light. Anybody know where I can get a blank to make something similar? Because it looked like a lot of fun. Thanks - Tyler

29. Re: Best Guides
Russel you are right some info would help.
I am looking to do a spinning with 10 to 25 lb braided line. Fishing in the Barnegat Bay for bluefish and fluke, maybe some small stripers doing topwater, jigging and simple rigs, nothing like troling.
I am going to do doubles because i think they look a little bit nicer and you are open to more customization in the wraps.

30. Best Guides
I am building a light saltwater using the mhx white L904-W. I am looking for a set good high quality double foot guides that arent terribly expensive. Also is there anyone who has any ideas to save some money @ mudhole.com? Especially shipping cause thats what kills me every time.
