Andrew, before you purchase another blank, try an experiment with the rod you built.
What I'm proposing is for you to simulate trimming the tip of your rod to see if you can improve how the rod's newly increased power would handle the big lure that you want to use. To simulate trimming the blank, cut your line, back it out of the rod tip, and have the line run through and exit the last runner

This particular piece was very low contrast and I rejected it. My reject rate for this product was about 25%. It's the only turned piece I had to photo but it does illustrate the material's ability to emulate wood grain very well.

An unturned short customgrip cutoff showing a relatively high degree of contrast for this material. It appears to be made from 4 simultaneous variegated jets of foam in a continuous extrusion process. Clemens sold it in 18" lengths.

Is this Customgrip or Customgrip II?
6 full pieces with heavy variegation in the graining, 1 short piece on end showing graining and extrusion method of material, and low quality turned piece that was rejected for lack of contrast in the grain.
