Does anyone know where I can obtain a drying motor that runs about 30-40 rpm. I have seen the name Allelectric on the message board several times, but they do not come up under the www.allelectric.com. Thanks for any help. Sanford Hochman Re: drying motors

Hi Sanford, I use old bar-b-que spit motors for drying. Years ago all the grills had a spit above the grill with the motor, but nobody used the thing! You can find them in garage sales, flea markets or one of your friends probably has one in his garage somewhere. I remove the outer case from the motor and mount it on a support at the height I want(it can be adjustable by routing a slot in the support so you can move it up or down.) I put a toggle switch on the mount, but that is not necessary as it comes with a cord and can just be plugged in. I take a piece of PVC, tap it for thumbscrews and epoxy a 3" piece of square steel stock to fit the spit motor to the back of the PVC. Mine was made by a buddy from the post cover on highway signs-it is heavier than needed but works fine. The spit motor turns at appx. 5 RPM which is just right for finishing and also gives you time to check for bubbles or depressions. I use Flex-Coat for a final finish and it takes about two hours to begin to set up, then I put the rod in the bathroom(warmest room in the house) and let it cure overnight.
