Threaded barrel for reel seat...

Hi all, first post here.

I'm looking for a 6"+ threaded barrel that will accept a standard fuji threaded hood. I'd like to have threaded hoods on both ends instead of an uplocking or downlocking seat, so I can balance a rod without adding weight. Preferably carbon fiber, but nylon/graphite or aluminum is ok.

I've seen a picture on a custom surf rod so I know someone somewhere is making them...

Anybody know of anything like that?

Thanks,

Abe

Thanks Spencer and David - I've seen those. I guess I wasn't clear on my original post, I'm looking for a longer barrel that I could cut to the desired length and mount both hoods on. I could use the shorter barrels with a spacer in between, but I'm hoping to find something longer.

Thanks!

Abe

You may another option but it'll cost you two reel seats. Cut the barrel from each seat, mount them end to end and you will have your single long barrel and 2 hoods.

Hello Tom.

When I read this the other day I remembered you did an article on reel seat tubes, I had some time today and looked it up; it was on shortening and not extending them.

So if anyone wants to shorten a Seat Barrel heres the article for you.

Lengthen one is pretty simple, just put two or more on an arbor to keep them aligned and move the threads till the nut smoothly moves from one piece to the other. Make alignment marks, glue everything up, align the marks, check to ensure you are still good, let dry and use it.

Robert,

The article I did was an adjustable reel seat that allowed you move the reel fore or aft to achieve whatever balance you wanted. It used two threaded seat hoods as I described above. It would have been in a very early issue.

Curious about comfortable a seat like being talked about, would be. I would think hand contact with the threads wouldn't be that comfortable. One of those trade offs kind of things I suppose.

Your hand is generally not in contact with the reel seat on a fly rod which I believe is the topic, although I I been know to mis read

If you have a threaded tube long enough, you can use, for example, a Fuji HPS or KDPS hood. Then use cork or CF hood-sleeves to make a grip that will screw down from Both ends. Your hand will not touch any threads.

That's the way I read it.
