Customer wants new decal in place of old decal. decal is between rear grip and butt grip. Just wondering what the drawbacks would be to just wrap D thread over old
decal, epoxy, and put new decal on top. then epoxy it over. Any help would be appreciated thanks Don. Re: new decal over old decal

Very little in the way of any downside. Only two I can think of would be that area then be a slightly different color than the rest of the blank and you're adding a tiny bit of weight. Although, where you're adding that weight isn't going to make any practical difference.

I think it would be easier to remove the decal and finish then re-apply the decal and finis coat. Re: new decal over old decal

Either wrapping over, then the decal, or removing the old. Both will work just fine. I think I would remove and not have the long wrap to do.
One issue with wrapping is that unless you wrap with black, you have a matching problem with the guide wraps which may have changed color from original wrap, and even if they didn't , how do you exactly match. If they don't match or totally contrast, it will look funny. Leads me to remove and apply new. Re: new decal over old decal

What’s wrong with the old decal? Could it just be refreshed with a coat of epoxy or Permagloss?

Ok, I got it. Your method of wrapping over the decal would work. Carefully removing the old decal, cleaning and smoothing the area before applying the new decal, would also work.
