Customer wants new decal in place of old decal. decal is between rear grip and butt grip. Just wondering what the drawbacks would be to just wrap D thread over old
decal, epoxy, and put new decal on top. then epoxy it over. Any help would be appreciated thanks Don.

Very little in the way of any downside. Only two I can think of would be that area then be a slightly different color than the rest of the blank and you're adding a tiny bit of weight. Although, where you're adding that weight isn't going to make any practical difference.

I think it would be easier to remove the decal and finish then re-apply the decal and finis coat.

Either wrapping over, then the decal, or removing the old. Both will work just fine. I think I would remove and not have the long wrap to do.

One issue with wrapping is that unless you wrap with black, you have a matching problem with the guide wraps which may have changed color from original wrap, and even if they didn't , how do you exactly match. If they don't match or totally contrast, it will look funny. Leads me to remove and apply new.

What’s wrong with the old decal? Could it just be refreshed with a coat of epoxy or Permagloss?
Norm.

Ok, I got it. Your method of wrapping over the decal would work. Carefully removing the old decal, cleaning and smoothing the area before applying the new decal, would also work.
