No difference, both are the same and stand for No color preserver needed to preserve the original color. Unlike regular nylon thread, the NCP/NoCP thread contains an additive which prevents the epoxy finish from soaking into the thread and causing it to darken and become more translucent. Hence, the thread is colorfast with original color of the thread being maintained.

Francis,
While Norman is certainly correct (as usual) regarding “NCP”/ “NOCP” thread versus regular “Nylon” thread, you may possibly still be confused as to which to use for a particular wrap; especially white thread over a black blank. Although “color-fast” NCP or NOCP thread is treated to minimize color change after finish application, such extreme color difference will still darken the white thread from the black base. Although thread coatings such as “color preserver” may lessen the darkening of the white thread (NCP or regular nylon), it is safe to say that the white thread will still succumb to darkening over a black base. Test, test, test.

This is Fuji’s Ultra Poly NOCP in White on a clear coated blank, not a black blank. I could have packed the treads better but this is my old surf rod I replaced the guides on.

Paint the blank white where you are wrapping it.

NCP white AND color preserver, will give you the most colorfast and opaque white over black.

When there is a high contrast between the blank color and thread color packing becomes more important. Much of the discolored wraps that are reported are actually due to poor packing and not CP failures, in my opinion., . White on black is probably the most challenging situat

Often, when wrapping a light color on a dark blank; some builders do an underwrap in silver.

If you prefer a look - that is the result of such a practice, go for it.

Take care

I’ve found Fuji’s NOCP white to be the best I’ve used. You still have to pack it TIGHT / and then some more.

Doing an underwrap in silver can help with any light color. You can also double wrap it in white. I’ve also colored the epoxy with the pigment of Testors enable paint and applied a couple of coats once on a rod what was just white wraps on a black blank

You can also add white pigment to your epoxy and get a perfectly white wrap. Granted, all epoxies are going to amber just a bit as they age, but if you simply want as white as white can be in or under epoxy, this is one trick you can fall back on.
