Cork Tape

Rather than use two layers of cork tape to build up or profile a grip, what is suggested to apply to the blank? Material needs to grip blank well, needs to provide a good substrate to the cork tape, and ideally needs to be thin enough that multiple layers may be used to create specific profiles.

The foam used to create carbon fiber grips would be ideal for that use.

I think Phil's suggestion is probably your best bet if you're married to cork tape. There is an alternative, however. Have you considered a cord grip? They're very tactile, durable and easy to wind/apply. Different sized cord will create different sized grips.

Hello Guy.

I'm with Tom on this one, you can make some real nice looking cord handles, with different sizes and prints of cord.

Here are a few RodMaker articles on the subject.

P.S. If you are stuck on the tape here is an article for that.

I appreciate the responses and the information given. At this time I will likely stick with the cork tape. Who has those foam cores? I know I've seen them somewhere but now I can't find them.

You can make your own. Or... buy the full length reel seat arbors that many sell. Same stuff.

I've seen them on several of the vendors on here.

Check Mudhole under grips and handles, then grip making.
