Some Help Needed

A Vietnam Paraplegic Vet from the Pittsburgh area made me an 8 weight 9 foot Atlantic Salmon rod in or around June, 1977-78. It was made from a Fenwick Woodstream HMG blank (GFL 108-8). I am writing a history of the rod BUT I lost the name of the Vet who constructed it. The Vet was an Army soldier and in order to pay this Vet my respects when writing the rod's provence, I need to find his name. He made me an wonderful rod and in my written history of the rod, I want to pay him my respect and thanks.
I served during Nam and I am 80 years old. I was told that the rod builder/Vet that I am looking for has passed away. Can any one help me find the name of this gentleman?

Karl,
Your desire to pay respect to the disabled VietNam vet is commendable and worthy of the effort. Unfortunately, I can not offer any assistance. With its broad base, this site may be the best of them in discovering the builder’s name. Possibly contacting the OLD tackle stores and such in the Pittsburgh area might prove fruitful. Other than that, I’ve got nothin’. GOOD LUCK!!!

There is a rod building shop in the Pittsburgh area that has been in business for a number of years now that might be able to help you?

The Hook and Hackle Company - 1-800-552-8342

Good Luck

Don

I agree with trying Hook and Hackle, nice guys, I would also check with the fly fishing program at Penn State, and I would post on the NA Fly Fishing Forum, and ask the local TU chapter as some of its older members may know.

FTI: SaraBella rod company in Colorado uses vets to wrap and epoxy its rods.
