An advertiser of rods printed ads extolling the "soulful action" of his product. Rod advertisements are chock-full with claims "Fast" or "Smooth" or "Sensitive" rods, and arguments rage over the presence or amount of these elusive characteristics in fish rods. Advertisers offer dreams, not reality. Admen apparently have concluded the average rod-buyer is happiest buying a dream of performance. A fishing rod is a dynamic product, so static tests of rods are not very informative - any more than static tests of a rifle which don't involve firing it. It's the whole raccoon trying to get into a garbage can thing. But instead of humans getting a kick out of watching a raccoon trying to get into a garbage can, the raccoon is getting a kick out of throwing garbage on the ground and watching humans come by and pick it up.
Now here's the rub .... when the humans pick up the strewn garbage, they throw it right back into the same garbage can it came out of. In essence, they're entertaining and feeding the raccoon at the same time. And we all know the raccoon won't go away until you stop feeding it. So put the dang lid on the garbage can tight enough, and this kind of thing will eventually stop. At least one can hope it will. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
