Heated guide lightly, removed thread and then guide. Scraped firmly with fingernail and then a grooved out plastic spoon. Still a little epoxy left on blank. Is there some 'around the home' items that can be safely used to get that last epoxy off? WD 40, Coca Cola, Baking Soda etc. Thanks Steve Cox " It is by having hands that man is the most intelligent of animals" ancient philosopher Anaxagoras Re: Epoxy Removal

To the best of my knowledge there is no "magic" solvent for cured epoxy that will not risk damage to the blank. Sorry about that.
Try warmth (not blazing heat) and an old credit card. Re: Epoxy Removal

Steve,
Whenever I remove the epoxy, I make a point of always rewrapping in the same location from which I removed the guide. Then, I simply use a straight edged razor blade to remove the epoxy and likely the rod finish as well. I don't get hung up on trying to preserve the original finish, because I just don't want to spend the hours and hours to try to chip away at it. I simply use gentle heat, and a straight edged razor blade that is held perpendicular to the blank to scrape off the epoxy and the original finish. Best wishes. Re: Epoxy Removal

I take a emery board and sand it lightly after heat and scraping so there is a smooth surface for the thread to lay on. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
