Had a friend ask for a 7'2 it 7'4 heavy fast rod. Only found two blanks that for that description. The Rain shadow REVC72H-SB and the MHX NMB874-MHX. It's a little outside of my wheelhouse. Any recommendations between the two or any other brand? Thanks. Gary Re: Blank rec 7'2/7'4 heavy fast

Those 2 blanks might differ by a good bit. The RS has a .610 butt and a 7 tip, The Mhx has a 5.16 butt and a 5.5 tip. Re: Blank rec 7'2/7'4 heavy fast

I'm pretty much only a fly fisherman. That mean the rainshadow will be a broomstick? Re: Blank rec 7'2/7'4 heavy fast

The RS is rated for a higher lure weight so that may be why? Re: Blank rec 7'2/7'4 heavy fast

Don't narrow your search so much, being a rod builder you can always go with a longer blank and cut the butt so you end with 7'2" - 7'4"
Or choose a shorter blank and lengthen it. I just finished 3 centerpin rods that the customer wanted 13'6" 2pc and I used 13' 2pc blanks sometimes you have to think outside the box Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/27/2020 06:22AM by John Sansevera. Re: Blank rec 7'2/7'4 heavy fast

Thanks John. I'm new to building and really want sure where to start so I was concentrating on the rod he asked for. I would know what did to start with to cut down.
I'm really just looking for a good blank rec. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/27/2020 09:02AM by Gary Goldsmith. Re: Blank rec 7'2/7'4 heavy fast

Tip and butt size doesn't necessarily tell you much about a rod blank, a larger diameter/thin wall blank can get you to the same place as a small diameter/thick wall blank, though the smaller diameter blank will usually be the heaviest blank all things being equal. Re: Blank rec 7'2/7'4 heavy fast

hmm.... i would say the fp885
its an awesome rod, you can do alot with it. frogs, 3/8 to 3/4oz flipping, also the 130 whopper flopper are what i use mine for the most. i haven't thrown swimbaits or spinnerbaits on mine but really like that rod, very versatile. and rated up to 1.5 oz. the black metallic looks sick too btw Re: Blank rec 7'2/7'4 heavy fast

Thanks I ended up with this. MHX 7'2" Heavy Elite Pro Rod Blank - NEPS86HF-MHX
I'll have to check out the point blank next time. Re: Blank rec 7'2/7'4 heavy fast
