I have a rod I did a thread wrap on but was never really happy with how I applied the rod finish on the thread. I had put too much thread coating on and it makes the wrap look bulbous. My plan is to sand down the old finish to stream line it and recoat. The problem is I can't remember what thread finish I used when I built the rod. Can I recoat Flex Coat over Thread Master or visa versa?

Yes, should be fine.
Of course I know which one I would use. Flex Coat Company Professional Rod Building Supplies www.flexcoat.com Re: Recoating thread wrap

Sam,
Don't be surprised if, when sanding down the finish - you go too far and cut some threads. However, if you do; don't despair. Just finish stripping down the rod, clean each area back to the bare blank and rewrap and recoat the wraps and you will be good to go. However, unless you are really a wisher for punishment - you might consider just using the rod as is, and build yourself another new rod, using the thinner finish on the wraps. Best wishes Re: Recoating thread wrap

Thanks for the help and recommendations! I was able to sand down the old finish without getting into the threads(had my fingers crossed the whole time) and apply the new finish. Time will tell whether or not you can mix or match thread coats but so far so good. No fish eyes or incompatibility issues when applying the new protector.
Sam PS- My wife had the same comment about just using the rod as is. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
