I don't want to hijack the post but if you cut it from the bottom will it still slow the action. Just wondering. Re: I want to cut down a rod blank

Yes it will still slow the action, the action is simply the ratio of what bends to what doesn't. If the first 18 inches bends on both a 7 ft. and 6 1/2 ft. rod the shorter rod is slower actioned, conversely a 7 1/2 ft. rod would be faster. Lot's of characteristics of rod performance are attributed to action, that should be attributed to power and what a blanks made of. Re: I want to cut down a rod blank

I will NEVER cut a blank from the tip. I've had a number of blanks break from accidents, and in every case the blank really felt different and not as good as before. Even with just a couple inches. I much prefer to find a blank that needs no shortening to altering the blank myself. I don't think that cutting from the butt affects the blank as quickly as cutting from the tip.
Different story for adding to the butt-that can work out quite well. But buying the right blank that doesn't require alteration is my preference, if possible. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
