I want to cut down a rod blank

I want to cut down a rod blank From 6.8 down to 6.2 what will this do to the action of the rod it is a M/H fast action blank.

I don't want to hijack the post but if you cut it from the bottom will it still slow the action. Just wondering.

Yes it will still slow the action, the action is simply the ratio of what bends to what doesn't. If the first 18 inches bends on both a 7 ft. and 6 1/2 ft. rod the shorter rod is slower actioned, conversely a 7 1/2 ft. rod would be faster. Lot's of characteristics of rod performance are attributed to action, that should be attributed to power and what a blanks made of.

I will NEVER cut a blank from the tip. I've had a number of blanks break from accidents, and in every case the blank really felt different and not as good as before. Even with just a couple inches. I much prefer to find a blank that needs no shortening to altering the blank myself. I don't think that cutting from the butt affects the blank as quickly as cutting from the tip.

Different story for adding to the butt-that can work out quite well. But buying the right blank that doesn't require alteration is my preference, if possible.
