Madeira thread

Hello, I've just received some Maderira thread and found it to be not compatible with the posts on the thread carriage of my custom power wrapper. The conical hole inside the spool is way too big. I want to avoid having to transfer the thread to a compatible spool. I was wondering if there is something I can buy or diy easy solution. I'm thinking of taking an old wood spool and turning it to fit inside the Madeira spool but it's a fair amount of work. Thanks

Path of least resistance here may be to just get a drill bit, widen it with masking tape until your wood spool slides onto it snugly, and do the transfer using drill. I do this all the time because I transfer all my Madeiras to 4 spools each for x wrapping.

Thanks, I used to pack rat the empty spools and had a ton of them thinking they'd come in handy someday. Threw them away a while ago, Who knew? I do have a bunch with almost nothing on them I can use. Do you have the tread come off the top like a spinning reel unloads or put something thru the spool like a conventional reel?
I'm going to try to turn the wood spool today and see what happens. I'll post on here the result. Thanks again

Hello Sheridan.

Why not just turn a dowel down to fit inside the spool then center drill it to fit your post, so when you have to use those spools you just slip on the adapter then the spool and wrap as usual.

Thanks Bob, I thought of that too but I'll try the wood spool first since it already has a hole in it. Whatever I use will have to be turned since the inside of the Maderia spool is conical. I figured I wasn't the first to run into this and maybe someone had a better solution.

I use foam arbors to fit in the over sized spool holes. The arbors already have a quarter inch hole. Make sure the arbors fit firmly. I use a threaded rod for my tension device so even the large cone shaped thread spools work quite well. When I,m done, I simply use a dowel to push the arbor out so it can be used for the next spool.

I Put the wood gudebrode spool on a piece of old blank and turned it on my power wrapper. Fits nice and snug inside the maderia spool and looks like it should work like a charm. If not I'll try the foam arbors, thanks Mike. Thanks again for the helpful suggestions, any other ideas I'm all ears

you can make the arbors out of anything that you feel is the easiest to work with, wood, plastic, tape, metal, foam arbors ,it will all work it is called a shim to shim it up ,
