Any recommendation for some nice fly seats for 2-6 wt. rods, that don't require hidden hood design? Thanks - Marc Keep it simple - that's all I can handle! Re: Fly Seats that don't require hidden hood

Is it just me, or do the A7's seem like too much seat for a 2-6 wt. rod? Thanks - Marc Keep it simple - that's all I can handle! Re: Fly Seats that don't require hidden hood

Down locking seats can be mortise free. I've some Lamiglas Perigee 5/6 rods that look fine with an A-7 seat and Fenwick grip. Re: Fly Seats that don't require hidden hood

look at the offerings from Lemke ore REC.
I like a downlocking seat but sadly most manufacturers are going to up locking with the hood hidden in the half wells grip :( Re: Fly Seats that don't require hidden hood

Joel Lemke makes some nice hardware in the LC-1 Downlock, Garrison Style GS-1, look at Southwest Custom Rods or Custom Fly Rod Crafters, Mike McCoy at Snake Brand has Lemke stuff as well. You won't find a better looking seat for the money. Re: Fly Seats that don't require hidden hood

Almost any seat can be used without hiding the hood. Most mad for hidden hoods are not given a high quality finish, but can still be used without hiding the hood. Re: Fly Seats that don't require hidden hood

As long as you use a reel seat with a round insert you can butt it up against the grip and do a wrap on the exposed hood to match the guide wraps. I've done it a number of times and it looks great. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
