Red wraps and gold trim, and my personal preference: no cp.
I'm sure there will be more suggestions. Take care, Chris Re: Thread Combo Help Needed.

Brown/Black variegated wraps with metallic gold trim. Comes out looking like a hand rolled cigar, very classy. Is it a fly rod? Dennis J. Danku (Sayreville,NJ) Re: Thread Combo Help Needed.

It depends upon how much you want the wraps to be visible. My preference would be brown wraps (no CP or NCP) and gold metallic trim. Re: Thread Combo Help Needed.

Yes, it is a fly rod.
Define CP and NCP for me. Thanks Re: Thread Combo Help Needed.

We have a shop locally that caters to quilters.
Faced with odd colours, or just stuck as to what might look good, I have taken rods to this store and asked the girls for help. Re: Thread Combo Help Needed.

Skip - To answer your question " CP" stands for Color Preserver which is used to maintain the true
color of standard Nylon thread when Epoxy is applied. Without CP nylon will go translucent and the color of the thread will dramatically change depending on how dark the blank is. The second type of thread used is "NCP " , which is nylon with an additive that makes it opaque. You can epoxy over this without it turning translucent. Regular nylon will have bright, vibrant coloration, NCP matte to flat coloration. If you want the thread to "disappear" you want nylon without CP. If you want it to "pop", nylon with CP. Last "root beer" color rod I built was an Orris blank, and I'm still wondering what the good folks at Orris drink thinking it is root beer! I used Clover Tire 50 weight silk (it's about the same diameter as size A nylon), color #055 (clay) without color preserver. It worked to my eye. Do try a test wrap first - the color shift that occurs when finish is applied and the silk becomes translucent is significant. Re: Thread Combo Help Needed.

I would also consider a dark green thread (with cp) and gold metallic trims!

I did a jigstick in a rootbeer-like color and wrapped it in black and metallic copper - like a new penny. The copper really sets off the blank and is less common than gold, making it more unique Re: Thread Combo Help Needed.

I like to have the main wrap blend in with the blank. So, I would use a root beer colored thread, that when coated would be exactly the same color as the blank.
Then, I would do a gold trim . Be safe Re: Thread Combo Help Needed.
