Hey fellas I use Flex Coat High Build to finish my guide wraps, what are your opinions on the number of coats to use. I have used in the past one single thick coating, but am wondering if two would be better. Re: How Many Coats

I asked this questions a while ago, seemed the majority of builders used two coats...some used three. Re: How Many Coats

Hello Jay.
If you do it right one should be enough unless you want a really deep look, than two or even three. Tight Wraps & Tighter Lines. Bob, New Bern, NC. Re: How Many Coats

Jay,
I generally only use one coat of high build. There is a rare instance where I will use more than one coat. However, one might say that I use 1 1/2 coats. I use a rod wrapper to apply finish. After applying and getting it all squared away, I will keep an eye on it for about 10 minutes on the wrapper turning slowly. I keep a very close eye on the finish, and if after 10 minutes, I note any spots that need a touch more, I add just a touch of finish on those spots and watch it for another 5 minutes. If all is well; I then transfer the rod to my drum dryer, where I can't do any touchups due to other rod proximity. Normally, the finish is perfect when I take the rod off of the drum dryer several hours later. Simply put, you only need enough finish to cover the threads and to cover them evenly. If you can do this with one coat - no need to put more on the rod. It will just add weight to the rod. Be safe Re: How Many Coats

2 for me. I lay my first coat on thick to make sure everything get saturated then go back and pull off extra finish, let it dry and then apply a final coat once it's dried. This way I can cut off any fuzzies or imperfections that I may have created...still learning! Re: How Many Coats

I found this very informative. Hoping to get a more even finish on the current rod I'm building for my daughter.
