Hey everyone,
I'm getting ready to do my second build. It's a 2 tone Rodgeeks muskie series blank. The two tone is 50/50 gloss white butt and metallic copper top. I bought NOCP White Fuji thread to do my guide wraps and Metallic Copper for trim bands. Do I need to worry about the copper portion of the blank bleeding through the white thread or are there any steps I need to take to prep the blank before wrapping? Thanks in advance Edited 1 time(s). NCP white + CP will stay pretty much opaque.

X2 chris's response. You might want to apply a coat of CP over the white thread. Do a test before building rod. Good luck. MH Re: White thread

could add some white marbling pigment to some low build epoxy and apply that to the areas you plan to cover in the white thread.
But packing and CP should be enough. Re: White thread

Epoxy has improved over the last decade. But, it still has a tendency to yellow. Perhaps someone who does this type of wrap could comment on the current situation of having lighter colored wraps take on an amber tint.
Quite some time ago, I did one piece silver under wraps on a rod. After a couple of years the silver had a significant amber tint. Since that time, I have been sensitive to the colors used. Although I have never used white, I would limit its use to narrow trim bands. The amber will be less noticeable on narrow bands. Some solutions are: Use a coating such as Perma Gloss Use the least amount of epoxy you can. A thicker coat of epoxy will produce a darker shade of amber. Don Becker Re: White thread

Thanks for the responses guys. I am going to play around with some colors and see if I could use the white as a complimentary color rather than the main color of the guide wrap. Re: White thread

Wait I can use auto paint for wraps? I have some that I use on occasion to clear a blank I've painted. Wouldn't guess it'd be as strong as epoxy. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/23/2015 11:26AM by Randy Weakley. Re: White thread

Hello Randy.
I think he means to paint under the wraps not over the wraps. Right Bill? Tight Wraps & Tighter Lines. Bob, New Bern, NC. Re: White thread

Bob, I think he meant over. How could a clear coat under the thread possibly stop
a dark blank from showing through when the thread turns translucent ? Re: White thread

Robert I got the same impression you did, but I think it was in relation to yellowing of the finish vice thread translucency. The thread in question here is NOCP so it should stay opaque.
I still have doubts as to the strength of auto clear coat as a thread finish. Re: White thread

Also do you use it as a total replace for all of your thread wrap finish? Do you find it to be flexible so cracking isn't a problem. Thanks Re: White thread

Hello All.
Never heard of using auto coat o a fishing rod but if you used something to keep it from getting hard & brittle I guess you MAY be able too. If you try it post some photo's of the finished product, and tell us how sturdy it is. Happy Holidays & Tight Wraps. Bob, New Bern, NC. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
