Help needed to pick a Batson blank

I am looking for a Batson blank for halibut fishing in Alaska. I would like a very soft tip so when a fish hits it wont strip the herring off the hook and enough backbone to fish 50 - 65lb line. I would like a ton of flex in the front 1/3 to 1/2 the blank and a strong back half. I would like a 6'6 rod. I really like Batson blanks as they are not only fantastic blanks but the Batson are great people!

Hi Kevin,

Sounds like you want a RCLB model. I build on the RCLB 70XL for local fishing around Long Island New York and it is a great blank. I was told a few years ago that this model in higher pound class catches many big fish in the Pacific North west.

Call the Batson brothers as I am sure they have used these blanks for halibut.

I will be fishing 65lb line I don't know if a 15-25lb rated blank would handle that

The E-glass TS66MH is halibut fishing nirvana. Put the blank model # in the search function for all the information you need. I have halibut rods built on the SWB70H blanks, they work well till you get a halibut larger than 100 lb. on, then they get a bit soft.

Kevin I have guided up there. You could get into some big halibut. my personal biggest was 319 #. be ready with a broom stick and you wont regret it. I have never had a halibut on that there was a question of feeling the bite.

Hi Kevin,
Well this is a very interesting subject to say the least. The ToughStick TS66MH is great, SWB70H is also great, also the RCLB70M is great. I guess thats what you get when you have more than a few models to choose from! The problem is that you don't know exactly how big a Halibut your going to catch. In the straight here in Washington we use: But we are going for 80-200lb Halibuts max.

I would poke around on www.rainshadowrodblanks.com and look at the entire saltwater series. I think you will narrow it down to a few models! Then again you can always build 5 different ones to say you did ;)
