Can anyone please tell me what 17 pound mono line has the most strength and the smallest diameter with the least memory that is on the market today. Re: 17 lb mono line

The physical properties of nylon monofilament undergo significant changes after it absorbs water, which all nylon mono lines will do. Changes occur in flexibility, tensile strength, knot strength, and abrasion resistance, and the degree of change varies from one product to another. My experience and observation has been that by far the most fish are lost to knot failure rather than line failure. Learning which knots are strongest and how to tie and seat them consistently will prevent losing more "big ones" than line selection. Re: 17 lb mono line

I've never tried it, but I've always heard that Stroft, which is made in Germany, is the best, thinnest monofilament line in the world. It can be hard to get in this country, which is one of the reasons that I've never tried it. A big online sale outlet had a bunch of it about two years ago, but I snoozed, and didn't get any. It's worth a try if you can get your hands on some. Re: 17 lb mono line

Why not just go with braid and a mono leader Bill - willierods.com Re: 17 lb mono line

Bill, there are places that those around you will get extremely annoyed if you fish with braid.
Most folks on most Piers. Many party boats flat out ban it. Many guided single engine boats that go into the gulf. Get that stuff around your prop shaft and those few miles off shore become a nightamre or someone is swimming with bullsharks and a knife trying to cut line out of the prop.
