Winn fore grip confusion.

I'm about to start my second rod and was going to install a set of winn grips. The rod will be setup for spinning and built around an aero seat. I was confused on something though. In the pictures on winns website they show the fore grip as have a black extension on the back of the grip. Does this slide inside the reel seat or something? I've never installed winn grips before but as I understand it a 17mm aero seat fits nicely with the winn 1.08" grip.

Any tips and tricks would be appreciated.

Also here is a link to the fore grip i was talking about.

Adam,
They include that on all of their grips, it will fit in certain reel seats however on smaller ones I simply remove the tenon with a razor blade.

Kind Regards,

Adam,
You could do as Brook suggests.

Or, if you have a lathe and you wished, you could cut into the material and make a deeper tenon if needed - to fit inside the end of the threaded portion of the Aero grip.
Basically the correctly sized tenon, would replace part of the typical foam arbor that you are going to put inside the reel seat to fit your rod blank.

Good luck

Thanks for the lathe idea. I don't have one to use but man would I love to be able to slip a foregrip over the front nut on the aero grip. Kind of like the fuji vssm i think.

That tendon is not really nessary You can cut it off and as long as you Glue the foregrip well it will go Nowhere

Adam,
Perhaps the best option of all is to use NO fore grip.

I cut off the tendon then use a forstner bit on my drill press and it comes out great to fit over two or three threads.

Thanks guys. I chatted with Lance over at swampland and went foregripless. My other builds(just a couple) have been without foregrips but the cool winn colors only came in the two piece sets. I instead am going with the tour stargrips and no foregrip.
