I'm about to do a build for my Grandpa on a S721-2-MHX. How many guides and what sizes will I need? Also, it's a two piece. Do I need a ferrule or anything like that? Thanks. Re: Guide Sizing 6' UL Spinning

The ferrule is built into that tip over butt blank. I would do a wrap on the ferrule, as close to the end as possible. The wrap would be about twice as long as the diameter of the blank. I have used American Tackle guides on the blank in the past. Chris Richer Iroquois ON Re: Guide Sizing 6' UL Spinning

A few guys we know are having great results with two guide reduction trains. Yours would be a KL12H (stripper) and a KL5.5M straight into the runners (KT5). VERY light guide train on a UL. Re: Guide Sizing 6' UL Spinning

X10 on Jim's comment.
If you wish, you could actually put the stripper guide on the rod joint and have no guides at all on the lower 1/2 of the rod. If that were the case you could likely use only 4 guides. i.e. 1-12 and 3 or possibly 4 - 5.5 running guides. It is actually nice on a two piece rod to have no guides on that section. It makes packing easier. It is actually likely that you would normally put the stripper guide at about 18-24 inches from the butt end of the blank - leaving you with only the stripper guide on the butt section. Then, you would likely go with 5 or maybe 6 running guides on the upper 1/2 of the rod. Be safe Re: Guide Sizing 6' UL Spinning

Also the Minima guides for a UL rod would be something to look at Never have but some post they are using them on heavy saltwater rod

Andrew
Are you building a spinning rod or a casting rod? Rog Re: Guide Sizing 6' UL Spinning

Bought a kit from Mudhole with the same blank to save some money. It also comes with a guide spacing chart. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Re: Guide Sizing 6' UL Spinning

The 27x guide layout is my favorite on my spinning rods, and that's mainly what I build. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
