After finishing my latest build I was checking it and realized I made a stupid mistake. My reel seat is off about 3-5 degrees with the guides. I know i can fish it but i want it correct. Is there any way of rotatong the reel seat slightly, maybe heat the seat to loosen the epoxe temporarily. or do I have to remove the rear hypalon, cut the seat off and replace them. Aluminum reel seat and Flex Coat rod builders epoxe.
Any input is appreciated. thanks, tom Re: Need Reel Seat Help !

You will have better luck re-wrapping the guides
The butt Gone - IF you can heat and loosen the seat you will still have to clean and reglue Lesson Learned Never be in a hurry ALWAYS dry fit Check And when you think it is good Check again Tape and mark Then just alaine the marks when you glue Others will post Maybe some one has a better way ???? If you properly prepped the mating surfaces and used a good epoxy, you're not likely to get the seat to budge without harming the blank. Epoxy isn't like hot melt cement - even if you were able to break its bond it won't reset.
I'm afraid you'll be looking at removing and moving the guides. However, you might want to see how far in the seat you can shift the reel foot. You might be able to buy yourself that 3 or 4 degrees right there. .................... Re: Need Reel Seat Help !

Hello,
If it's a spinning rod you might not need to do anything at all depending on which direction the seat is canted. Spinning guides in use are not always held at a perfectly level axis in relation to the blank. Sometimes they end up being offset just a bit inwards, in line with the flexion of the anglers's wrist. You can see this effect if you try to work a lure with the guide rings at a perfect 6-o'clock, pointing towards the ground-- to me feels stiff and unnatural. In this situation a seat that was offset a few degrees, (opposite the effects of wrist flexion), would bring the guides back into a perfectly level axis during use. -chad Edited 2 time(s). Like Chad said, take it out and cast it and see how it works for you. That's why I use a level to align everything. Re: Need Reel Seat Help !

I would not try to bend guides to align them better. I did that once and it looked just as "off" as the reel seat angle and it damaged the blank by pushing the foot of the guide too hard into the wall of the blank. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
