Anyone out there have any experience building a float rod specifically for cat fishing on small to medium sized rivers? I am (for a customer)looking for a rod in the 11-12 foot range. Throwing less than 1oz total weight on 17lb braided line. Would a MH salmon/steelie rod fit the bill? Re: Float fishing for catfish

I use 10/11 wt spey blanks for that purpose. Plenty of inexpensive blanks available on the @#$%& site. Re: Float fishing for catfish

Thanks, John. Haven't built on Spey blanks, I imagine that the intermediate modulus like IM-6 or IM-7 would work best in this capacity, right? He's wanting something with a moderately fast tip with some backbone. Re: Float fishing for catfish

Many of the 11'-12' center pin float blanks in salmon size range would serve him well. Rainshadow IST1446F comes to mind that fits the specs you are looking for.
