Which blank fits this bill?

We took my 10 year old grandson salmon fishing a week ago and he was a blast to see casting. He was using my 8 1/2' Gloomis STR fast action which was almost a bit more rod than he can handle. He did hook one for a few seconds but had it stayed on, the rod length and fast action may have done him in.
I would like to build him something that's a bit more friendly for his stature to use AND land salmon with (he is the shortest kid on his baseball team). I was wondering if anyone knew of a decent blank in a 2 piece 7' - 71/2' blank with a moderate to moderate-fast action in the 6-12 pound line rating or so? Thanks. Fishing from a boat, salt water, river bank or what? Re: Which blank fits this bill?

Mostly wading in a rather swift current river. Move out away from the bank and throw drifts over gravel and into holes and pools. Trust, but verify - Ronald Reagan Re: Which blank fits this bill?

It's not the action that "did him in" it was not having the right line on the rod for his casting distance. Upline by one or two line sizes and send him back out and see how he does.

How heavy a mono should he have had? (This was a spinning setup, not fly). Trust, but verify - Ronald Reagan Re: Which blank fits this bill?

Never mind - I was thinking fly. In that case you'd be right in getting him a little shorter rod.

I was able to order a Rainshadow IP904F 2 piece blank today. I built the same IP904 in a one piece which my wife commandeered when she landed her first salmon with it. I think this one will work great for my grandson. Trust, but verify - Ronald Reagan Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
