Dryer motor shaft adapter needed
Posted by: Stephen Collins (---.dyn.centurytel.net)

Hello all, I have my dryer almost complete, but need some adapters for the motors. They have a half round half flat shaft. I have seen some in the photo section with similar motors, but they have an adapter on motor shaft that has a threaded end to attach the chuck to.

Does anyone know where I might find such an adapter? I searched the forum, and nothing came up, and I have looked at many of the hobby shop sites, Graniger, and other sites, but nothing so far.

Thanks,
Stephen

If you search this wording "rod building motor shaft coupler" using google you will find what you are looking for.

James, thank you! I did a google search, how would we live without google, right? but I did not use the exact wording you did, and what I had come up with was not at all what I needed.

Stephen,
Anyone with a lathe can make such an adapter in about 5 minutes.

An easy thing to do, is to take your motor to a hardware store and find a threaded coupling adapter that slips over the shaft of your motor tightly. Use the opposite end to thread in a machine screw to hold the chuck.
Then, use a drill and tap to cross drill the portion of the nut that slips onto the motor to insert a set screw to retain the coupling nut on the motor shaft.

If you don't have the tools, just find a friend or other that does and have them do the work for you.

All you need is a round piece of any steel and drill and tap for a set screw.
