On my latest two rod builds the finish turned out exceedingly well except for the wrap at the tip. One both of these rods the finish "bellied" out on this wrap. It was done the same as all the other wraps on the rod but this on looked bad and really took away from all the good ones. What might have happened? Re: My finish is pregnant

I was wondering about that but I thought I was applying no more than as on any of the other guides which came out nice and level, but again that makes sense. Re: My finish is pregnant

Also known as the football finish. Wasn't there a leading company that deliberately finished their wraps that way? Re: My finish is pregnant

How close to the tip is the rod supported when the rod is drying. If the suppoert is too far away it may cause the tip to vibrate a bit causes the expoxy to ball up more then on the guides. Rolly Beenen Rovic Custom Rods Re: My finish is pregnant

Rod finish that is starting to set will be more difficult to apply only a small amount. Chester May your line be tight and your beverages be cold! Re: My finish is pregnant

Chuck,
This is one of the key reasons to keep an eye on the finish while the rod is on the dryer for the first 30 minutes or so. If you do find that foot balls, are forming on one of the guides or the tip, just apply a bit of gentle heat to the finish, thin the finish and use a brush to remove some of the finish on the rotating rod. Keep an eye on that spot to insure that you have not removed too much. If you have thinned the finish too much put a touch of finish back on the spot with a brush with slightly heated finish to insure that it is thin enough to flow nicely. Be safe Re: My finish is pregnant

Chuck,
Study the information here, it is very informative and once you have the concepts mastered, you'll understand how to solve and fix problems in your epoxy finish application. Almost all finish problems can be traced back to user inexperience and error, not product problems. [www.rodbuilding.org] Re: My finish is pregnant

I quite like a little bit of football in my wraps. Too much though makes them look silly. Re: My finish is pregnant
