Hello gents, so I got curious when reading the great responses about the CP post I put up. A few people mentioned that some like the effect of no CP, I am trying to find photos of the affect that was made mention of. Not having much luck, I wish I had the time to do some practice on blanks to see first hand, but with my new job it nuts and I travel a lot and just don't have the bench time. So im looking for some kind gents to let me know where to find some pics. Thanks in advance
And if I can ever give aquarium advise please let me know, of if anyone wants to buy a $100,000 aquarium and have it on TV I'm the man. Re: Trying to find photos of effect of no cp

Use five minutes to wrap thread onto one of your existing fishing rods, around one half inch. Then apply olive oil or vegetable oil to the wrap. The tread will be slightly lighter than when coated with thread epoxy. Undo the wrap and clean oil residue. Re: Trying to find photos of effect of no cp

Look in my gallery here: [www.rodbuilding.org] There are a bunch of guide wraps, most have no CP and are Nylon. Re: Trying to find photos of effect of no cp

Keith,
Go into any sporting goods shop that sells fishing rods. The vast majority of the commercial rods on the market use no CP. Be safe Re: Trying to find photos of effect of no cp

Hi Keith,
These are with madeira thread. No cp on the left, cp on the right and the spool colour. A black blank will make the difference greater. [www.rodbuilding.org] ESFNEM Col Port Kembla, NSW Australia Re: Trying to find photos of effect of no cp

Another way to test the color of a wrap is just to wet it with alcohol.
It will mimic the color of the thread without CP. If you don't like it, just let it evaporate and then use CP. Also helps if you are trying to match colors on a repair job. No need for any kind of oil. Alcohol or water does the trick. Lance Re: Trying to find photos of effect of no cp

Sounds like you ( should be ) making money with the job you got
Why are you playing with building fishing rods Ya ain't going to make any real money at it And you don't have the time to test things that should be tested Just putting a set of guides on a rod ---- you should test cast them to make sure you have the Correct Set Up And then adjust and test again But you don't have the time ???? Application of oil will mimic the look of epoxy. Re: Trying to find photos of effect of no cp

If anyone were to ever get any kind of oil anywhere near my workbench they would be banned for life.... water gets you the close to the finished effect. The only way to get the exact result is to do up a sample on scrap with finish. ______________________________________ Super Tight Lines......Don Re: Trying to find photos of effect of no cp

Don,
I mentioned vegetable oil once and was scolded by a bunch of people. I would just like naysayers to consider that nothing says you have to use vegetable oil in your shop and certainly not near your wrapping equipment. I'd like to know how a clear aqueous liquid, like water or alcohol, can accurately simulate the effect of a high build finish with a natural yellow cast to it? When trying to get an exact thread color match to do a repair job, vegetable oil will get you closer to the "final thread color with finish" than water or alcohol. It's not just making the thread wet, it's also simulating the refractive effect of a thicker finish, and using a substance that has a natural yellow cast to it like epoxy has on an older rod - you just can't get that with water or alcohol. Ok, going to hide under my rock again to avoid the slings and arrows of the vegetable oil haters... Re: Trying to find photos of effect of no cp

I didn't want to contradict anyone...I bought the Pro Wrap color chart, and epoxied all the threads. If there isn't a build up of finish you don't knwo what the thread will look like. Re: Trying to find photos of effect of no cp

Don't forget to look at the Tartan wraps to see some of the effects you can get without CP Re: Trying to find photos of effect of no cp

Billy, that color chart has a white background doesn't it?
How do you consider the effect of a darker blank? Re: Trying to find photos of effect of no cp

John, I don't wrap Nylon over darker colors so it doesnt' matter. Re: Trying to find photos of effect of no cp
