I ordered two bent butt "kits" to build for myself. please forgive my ignorance but this is my first attempt and i'm not sure what the pieces are called. the "straight part" of the butt that screws onto the bent butt is only about three inches deep where the blank is inserted into it. this does not seem like enough surface area to me! is this normal? do I build a normal arbor out of masking tape on the blank or should I go with something heavier duty?
thanks, mick Re: bent butt help

What you're describing is the butt ferrule that mounts onto the rod blank butt. It need not be any longer - the rod cannot break inside of it and the length is proportional to what is needed to maintain structural integrity in the aluminum butt.
Shim as needed, but I'd suggest using drywall tape or sleeving the blank with another scrap blank section. ................. Re: bent butt help

It is very important to mount the ferrule straight to the blank. Mount to your wrapper and watch while it spins. If not straight, you will know. Adjust it andz let it set. Re: bent butt help
