Hey fellas who makes an 8' 5wt fast or extra fast action flyrod blank?
I St Croix does but painted and I am looking for matte finish. Either 2-3-4 piece blanks would be ideal. Thx! Re: 8' 5wt fast action?

CTS maybe, the color won't be a problem. Re: 8' 5wt fast action?

The MHX from Mud Hole is a dynamite 5wt! It has become my "go-to" rod for most western trout fishing. Re: 8' 5wt fast action?

Thx Spencer and Phil!
However those blanks are 8'6 and I am wanting 8'. I should have elaborated more; I had a pair of RX8 3 and 4wt fly blanks made into spinning rods and they are phenomal with 2lb mono and #2 Panther Martins. Jumping to 4 & 6 lb and #4 spinners the rods are a bit overloaded. Hence my search for 5wt for a spinner. Suggestions? Re: 8' 5wt fast action?

Will,
Try CTS Fly Rod Blanks, the sponser on the left. Herb Ladenheim is a nice person to work with. He just ordered for me a 7.5 Ft,, 6 wt., 2 piece blank with med-fast action as a one off build from CTS. I'm using it for throwing size 4 Panthers too. Seems they will build you what you want. I have a 8 Ft., 5 wt. Cabelas SLi blank in the basement shop and when i rigged this up it felt under powered to me for the size 4 panthers. However, not all 5 weights are created with equal power. Also you might look at Pac Bay Tradtion II and Rainforest fly blanks. Seems I recall seeing 8 Ft., 5wts in their line up. Also you could chop off 6 inches on the MHX. and it still would be a nice rod. Good Luck! Best Regards, Craig Re: 8' 5wt fast action?

Either strip the StC blank from its paint coat, or take the easy way out ;-) i.e. CTS. You could also get in touch with fishingart.eu in Poland. They have recently started making veeery interesting blanks, fly stuff included and are also quite flexible as regards custom-made blanks.
Cheers, Michal Re: 8' 5wt fast action?

Sorry Will, gave you bad info on the Pac Bay. Wrong action and or color. Saw them in Anglers Workshop catalog.
Phenix elixir FX 8022B is an option but finish is wrong (matte clear) not matte gray You could have the finish taken off the St. Croix if you don't mind negating the warranty. Trim 6 inches off the MHX F865. Add a 12 inch extension to a MHX S842-2. A great blank in itself for throwing #2 & #4 Panthers Possibly CTS can probably lay one up for you although not listed as an available model. Or check with Dwight at Talon to see if they can make one for you. Talon made me an exceptionally nice fly blank upon request. Lots of possibilities. Craig Re: 8' 5wt fast action?

Batson RX7 8' 5wt in a grey matte finish. I built one as a fly rod, I find it pretty fast. Probably would make a nice spinning rod. Re: 8' 5wt fast action?

Contact St Croix. They may be willing to pull a blank from the line before painting for you. Chris Richer Iroquois ON Re: 8' 5wt fast action?

Remember line over 16
It is not Exacat but gets you in the ball park 3 wt 3 over 16 4 wt 4 over 16 Weight the lures you want to use Sounds like you may need 5 or depending on power 6 wt fly rod ??? 5 over 16 - 6 over 16 Then reduce the fraction Bill - willierods.com Re: 8' 5wt fast action?

Gotcha Bill!
The 4wt Batson works perfect with 2lb mono. Any more and 5 wt seems right. Re: 8' 5wt fast action?
