Being a woodworker, in addition to a rodbuilder, I was blown away by the wood cases by Steve Hoyle and seminar by Mark Crause, I believe it was, at the last Expo. Anybody got any photos, plans, articles, etc. on making wood cases? Re: Wood Rod Case

Gerald:
What are your questions? Teh nice thing wth the wooden cases is that they can be made in what ever configuration you would like. I attended Mark Crouse's seminars for the last two years and have built a couple of cases. I have elongated an octoganal case for a presentation case and have been contemplating how to build a case for reel on type application. There are two basic methods for cutting the sides, a table saw and a router table. I use a table saw as this method if more forgiving of variation in stock thickness as I am cutting from the face side. If you are going to use a router table, then the strips have to be the same thickness and you will need to isolate the bearing when setting the bit. I have so far build octoganal cases, but if I was build bamboo rods, I would be very tempted to build a 6 sided case. I have been using 1/4" and 3/8" thickness sides up to now and these are plenty strong. Clamping can be done with masking tape (3M Blue), latex tubing or even string.
