Hi : Brad
I use ( Mud Hole .Com ) MHX rodblanks.I have made 3 rods 2 .SJ-842-mhx and 1 CB-905.Blend . I sand lightly with 400 grit wet sand paper,, Use water when you sand and a LITE HAND is best when you sand . ,"" If you see any shine , then dull the shine and all will be fine "". Then wipe with a clean wet Polyester rag put rod blank out on the porch in the sun to dry, stand butt down on floor about an hour will do it. Now you'r ready to spray rod . I used RUST-OLEUM LACQUER White. I tape the butt end of the rod the length I will need for my reelseat, rear and foregrip. put a paper clip bent in the shape of a "J ". on the end. Tape 1 inch of the tip, hang rod so the tip will not touch the ground I have a line between 2 post, I tied the lineup about 7 1/2 ft. up I hang the rod by the butt hold the tip spray the rod 2 lite coats wait 4 min. spray 1 more coat ,let hang 2 hrs.. then move rod to my rod room, put butt on the floor in a corner, tip up let set about 3 to 6 days or till dry. dry is when you touch it you leave no print. Now I take the rod blank to my auto repair shop, he will spray a U.V. clear coat on this will keep rod from turning yellow over time. I did all this before M.H.X.Rods came out with a line of white Rods. I think you could use any color lacquer, just over spray with U.V> Clear paint. Good Luck, Richard Curry Line Grabber Custom Rods 706-652-3409 Maysville, Ga. 30558 Papacurry@gmail.com PS Try this first on a old rod blank that has been sanded and cleaned. This will prevent you from making mistakes on a new rod blank. Let me know how you do. What is life without fishing ? Re: White Blanks
