It's plenty strong, but on a fly rod it won't be too subtle...
What are you trying to do? Re: thread for fly guids

To answer your question, yes it's strong enough. It's strong enough for offshore trolling rods. Re: thread for fly guids

Curtis,
As already posted, it is plenty strong. I built a 6/7 weight, about 7 years ago with Gudebrod red metallic, and I have caught plenty fish on it with no strength issues. There is one issue though......if you put minimal coats of thread finish on, there is the potential that the color can wear off the metallic part, after the finish wears off of the high points or edges of the thread. I did a single coat of light finish, and now, over the years some of the high spots have worn down to shiny, bare, silver metallic thread. I no longer do such thin coats of finish.......... It is not only finish "wearing" the color (especially red) fade rather quickly under UV light, Re: thread for fly guids

Phil,
Not in this case. It was only the high edges that the color wore off of, after the thin finish wore off. I inspected it closely. The rest of the wraps, and "swelled butt" area where the feathers are, is fine; no fading or exposed wear. I also put multiple coats on the the swelled butt, because of the feathers. If it was fading, it would have happened whether the coats were thick or not. It didn't. Chris Re: thread for fly guids

Curtis,
Custom grips with bone/antler, exotic woods, different colored Burl cork, swelled butt with feathers, metallic thread wraps......... These make my flyrods more "exciting". Try em! Chris Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
