Maybe you can tell by the title of my post that I've been watching TV! LOL
That said, how many of you have done some hillbilly/homeboy bartering to get what you needed to either build a rod or did some rod work to get something else you needed in return? Crafters and rod builders alike are some savy folks so I'm sure this will be an entertaining and informative subject. Back in the day I had an old muscle car (make & model escapes me ) that needed brakes and even though I was a pretty cool shade tree mechanic I hated to do the brakes on that car. A real pain it was! Well, a friend of a friend wanted an old boat rod rebuilt and we worked it out that I would do the rod and he would do the brakes on my car. Each would supply the needed parts for the job. (I buy brakes and he buy guides etc.) To this day we both think we got the best part of the deal! There have been a couple other examples but the details also escape me right now. What say you? all the time. I've gotten gutters repaired for repairs on rods. I do a bunch of bamboo repair / restoration for a dealer. I can't count the times I've traded work for one of the rods or reels he's sent over. Re: Hard Scrabble Rod Building

Many years back I had to have a root canal. Turned out the guy doing it was a fly fisherman. He offered to trade the work for a fly rod.

Nothing better than those "Win-Win" situations.
Ad space in fishing publications, HVAC work, reels, embroidery work, tournament registration fees, tree cutting sevices, new trailer cross beam, several outboard motor repairs, landscaping....... Bartering is wonderful. Can steer you clear of taxes too, not that I would ever avoid my 7.25%. ..... Legally, both sales tax and FET are required to be collected and paid on the value of the rod traded, although I doubt that happens very often.

I can tell you that if you are audited, the IRS will ask you the question (under penalty of perjury) if you do any bartering. You better declare the value of the bartered services. Re: Hard Scrabble Rod Building
