I've built many bass and inshore rods but that's as far as I've ever gone. I now have someone who wants an ultra light spinning rod which I cant find in any of my normal vendor's selections. The specs on the rod he wants to match are 7'6" UL, fast action, 2-8lb line rating and 1/16-1/4 oz lures. Also it must be a two piece. At this point I'm guessing a fly blank might be my best option but I'm totally lost when it comes to slecting one as I have no idea what the ratings mean. Does anyone have any suggestions on a blank or could dplease direct me in the right direction. This rod will be used in the north Ga. mountains for trout. Thanks for any help. Re: 7'6" UL Blank Help

This one is pretty close - only thing that differs seems to be the line wt.

I have the blank Ken mentions. It will fish 8# test fine. It can even fish 4# if you don't overeact on hooksets. It will cast your lure weights with ease. I have used it to catch a variety of fish in fresh water. Only problem....it isn't an ultra-light rod by any measure. I'd be more inclined to advice its use for bonefish, permit, bonita, and smaller tuna.
I'd take a look at a zero power popping blank and extend it six inches. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Re: 7'6" UL Blank Help

The PHenix Elixir series is more likely to provide you with a relatively fast action spinning rod than a fly rod. North Fork offers some rods that you could extend beyond 7 feet. Re: 7'6" UL Blank Help

Joel,
In fly blanks try a 7'6" 3 or 4 weight. Perfect for trout will even handle down to 1# test for the clear streams. St Croix 42F764.2 or 2F764.2 Re: 7'6" UL Blank Help

I have to agree with Eugene both of those would probably fit the requirements quite well. The Batson F764-2 should fit right in, especially if price comes into play. Ron Weber Re: 7'6" UL Blank Help

I like the St. Croix 3S76MLXF. I have built the one piece but it does come as a two piece. I use it for trout in the mountains of Western NC.
