I know this dead horse has been beaten way too many times...but I wanted to bring it back to the surface. (And yes I did a search, but there is just too much that comes up to filter through).

I still see people that are reluctant to buy two piece rods. They feel that the ferrule leads to some kind of "weakness" or reduces sensitivity. Now I know that may hold true for the old rods with the metal ferrules, but as I understand modern, multi piece rods (with integrated ferrules) are just as sensitive and strong as a one piece rod...is that correct? Or the fact that if there is a difference in sensitivity, it is probably so minimal that the human hand can not detect the difference.

Am I correct with my above statements? If not, please let me know.

That horse died in the late 70's through mid 80's when integrated ferrules came on strong.

A multi-piece rod will be heavier than a single piece rod, but I think the benefits outweigh the disadvantage.

Don't bet on it being enough to matter.

St Croix 3S76MLXF and 3S76MLXF2 = both at 2.0 ounces
St Croix 3S66MHF and 3S66MHF2 = 1.9 and 2.0 ounces respectively
St Croix 5S70MF and 5S70MF2 = 1.6 and 1.7 ounces respectively

Done right, the difference can't be found in the hand. If that were the case, fly rod enthusiasts would surely be miffed by now.

I personally prefer multi piece rods. They are just so much easier to store. It would be kinda hard to stow a 9' fly rod behind the seat of my truck! I also agree that with a securely snug ferrule, I bet if you blind folded someone and gave them two identical rods (one being one piece and the other being multi pieces) they would not be able to tell the difference.

But it is funny how I still see people that believe multi piece rods are not even worth buying. You know the guy you see pull up to the jetty for a day of fishing in a little sedan with the rods sticking 3' out the side window!!!...LOL Oh well, I guess we each have our own opinions.

I see a lot of rods propped up on the closed tailgates of pickup trucks and bouncing around, usually with sliding egg sinkers whipping around on the lines and ricocheting off the blanks. I'm pretty sure most of these are one piece rods.
