Anyone used the Value - Eglass rods sold by Mudhole. Looking to build a catfish / live bait rod and am contemplating using this blank. Need to keep the cost down so thought about going this route.
thanks Re: Mudhole Value E-Glass

No but have used Batson's line of e-glass on a few builds think indestuctable. Grandkids use a couple as dock rods and they stand up to the abuse. Very economical too. I use a couple myself for crankbaits good tip action. They are worth a look.

Hello Casey.
I have a few blanks and have built a few but only built and fished one "SPSWB7H" it was my second build ever, 7', 20-40#, .765 butt, 8.5 tip, heavy rod caught a Tiger Shark about 250# with it while Hoo fishing with Ballyhoo or Halfbeak (depending where you are from). They seem to be good sturdy blanks. Tight Wraps. Bob, New Bern, NC. Re: Mudhole Value E-Glass

If you are aware of a similar blank but 9 - 10 feet please let me know. There are several mfgs out there but it seems once you get to that 9' mark the price goes up drastically. thanks Re: Mudhole Value E-Glass

Casey , I use the mudhole E-Glass blanks for all my Cod and Haddock rods. I have sold a half dozen of them and all my customers love them, even one of the party boat captians bought one. Great blank for the money! Vic Peterson Re: Mudhole Value E-Glass

Casey, Utmost on the left has some closeout Pac Bay blanks not e-glass but a good price range 8 to 10ft Salmon Steelhead rating don't know why you couldn,t use one of those for your application. Prices mid 30's to 40 dollars.

Hi Casey,
Granted I may be a bit biased here, but the E-Glass blanks are darn near bullet proof. As for the 9' version a big factor into the price jump is the transport let alone the additional material used in the production of the blanks. If your looking for an option in 9' you could take a look at the T90 Gator blanks (page 57 of the 2012 Catalog) or here on our site: [www.mudhole.com], they are more expensive compared to the E-Glass but are reasonable as far as 9' blanks go. Best of luck on you build, regardless of the blanks you choose feel free to give us a call if you need any help or advice. Re: Mudhole Value E-Glass

Casey,I have built several of the mudhole blanks for catfishing.I drift mostly with cutbait and you wont beat them for price and toughness.I like the mediums for channels and average blues and use the heavys when I put out big baits.I have caught up to 30lb blues on the mediums but would use the heavys to target larger fish.jmo You wont be sorry if you try them.I also use a simple spiral wrap on all mine.I fish out of a rodholder and drifting,it eliminates all the upside down reels. What would you say the action is like. I ordered an MHX downrigger rod but was unhappy with the action... It was listed as moderate and just too slow for my taste. Re: Mudhole Value E-Glass

The H is what I would consider a mod fast and the m is just a little slower. You may like the h better as it is a little faster than the m.I like a more moderate action for the kind of fishing I do.I have some Batson rclb 70mls that are awful good blanks but are too stiff and fast for how I fish.Hope this helps. The ccs numbers would eliminate all this guesswork if you find one you like run the numbers and you will have something to compare to rather than someones opinion.Thats one of the main purposes of it so you can have it in black and white and not what someone like me considers fast or moderate or whatever. What I consider mod you may consider slow ,so without numbers that compare to numbers that are achieved the same way,its just a shot in the dark.BUT if you have nothing to compare those numbers to .You gotta have one you like first and then duplicate that. I hope to do that this weekend. Well I went ahead and tried to do some measurements per the common sense system. I came up with 365 cents needed to create the amount of pull per the guidelines. I then went to the rosetta stone chart to convert and was unable to as the chart doesnt go high enough. any thoughts ???? Re: Mudhole Value E-Glass

Casey, remember the "365 cents" is the power and only half the info. The other half is the action angle. In time you will understand the most important one is the frequency of the blank.
Bruce if you really hate those rclb70ml's I'd be happy to dispose of them for you! They are nice blanks for saltwater live bait fishing. BTW, have you ever tried slow trolling/drifting live baits in deep channels for big catfish? It is something I turned a good old boy onto when I lived in Nashville. Russ in Hollywood, FL. If anyone happens to have the extended chart please let me know as I would like to get the ern thanks Re: Mudhole Value E-Glass

I have used them, and they can't be beat for the price. They are durable, attractive, and make great boat rods for bottom fishing.
My wife caught a 200# shark on SPSWB7M-PINK blank...quite a surprise after all the sea bass and trigger fish she had been catching up until she hooked the shark. I use them doe customers who are looking for a good boat rod, but can't afford the price tag of a graphite rod. Re: Mudhole Value E-Glass
