Let's say you have a typical 9' 4 piece fly rod but you want to bond the two lower pieces together and then the two upper pieces together, so in effect, you will now have a two piece rod. Would you be concerned about wrapping and finishing the two female portions of the rod sections that you are about to bond? Do you feel that it would be needed for strength to insure the female portion of the ferule doesn't split or not to worry, not really concerned about appearance. As always, thanks for your input. Unless the manufacturer does not require ferrule reinforcement wraps, do it.
Curious, however, as to why you want to bond the sections. If you want to utilize it as a 2-piece, why not just assemble the half sections and leave them in place. Why bond them? .................. Re: Modifying a 4 piece rod to a 2 piece rod

Tom,
considering this because the top most section of a certain rod has a tendency to come apart from the next section when casting larger and heavier Clouser type flies after a long afternoon of fishing. Once bonded, there would be no concern of it coming apart or rotating so the guides are no longer straight. The ability to transport the 4 pc vs the 2 pc is not an issue here. Thanks again. Rob,
If reasonable, I would set up my guide train on such a rod, so that each of the glued up joints would be under a guide. That way, the joint would be largely hidden. Roger Re: Modifying a 4 piece rod to a 2 piece rod

Well fitted and engineered ferrules should not suffer from the problem you are having. 1st: clean the ferrules, male and female. 2nd: apply U40 ferrule lube to the male section, and let dry. 3rd: always assemble the rod with the bayonet lock method. Re: Modifying a 4 piece rod to a 2 piece rod

The fit of the sections can be adjusted so they will not come loose. There was an article in Rod Maker that will describe the process in detail. Can't remember the issue. Re: Modifying a 4 piece rod to a 2 piece rod
