I'm looking at building a rod on the 8'1'' 2/3 wt Angler's Workshop Chalkstream blank:

I'm thinking of using this sequence of guides:
10,4,3,2,2,1,1,1,1

Does this sound appropriate?

For me it's good, maybe add one size 2 or 1 just in case.

If the 1's will pass your knots. You dont need all those other sizes. I would probably go 10, 4 or 6, then 1's on out.

Bruce gave you some good advice. It's a light blank and getting rid of all the intermediate sizes will reduce weight and provide a straighter line path.

You've got a dandy blank, mine had 1/0 tip guides, 10, 3, 1/0, small ring tip. All Snake brand guides. Just checked, my Sage SPL 389, 8 ft 9 in 3 wt has 2/0 tip guides and works beautifully with them.

Will the 1/0 guides pass nail knot and knotted leader reasonably smoothly? If the smaller guides will work, I prefer to use them.

The intended recipient would likely try a 4 wt line on this rod at some point, so that should be factored in.

Also, can I use on of these boat guides as a stripper or will it be too heavy? I like the look.

I prefer a guide simiar to the Pac Bay LXBG guide which looks similar to your guide, but much lighter in construction. Pac Bay also has an agate guide.
I've had no problem passing knots with either rod, more than enough room. Teeny even makes a sinktip for 3 wts.
